Scrap the Girls December Challenge!!

Say what!!!

It's December!!! How on earth has that happened??

Well the Magic Season is here, and we all get busy busy busy, so it was great therapy to create for this month's challenge over at Scrap the Girls.

Here's the mood board titled 'The Christmas Dress' - the idea is to be inspired by one of these dresses! How cute, such a great idea! Don't forget its all about the GIRLS in our lives!

So here's what I came up with:

Inspired by that navy/blue dress with the silver deer!

I was pretty excited when I found that paper in my stash!! Perfect.

I applied a layer of white gesso to go with the snow theme of my layout.

I scrapped my beautiful nieces who live in the USA, and this photo captures their joy at the falling of snow just perfectly.....wishes really do come true!  I just love the emotion!

This month we are sponsored by Cut to You - Gwen has the most gorgeous cuts available - you must check them out.

I loved adding a couple of their Christmas trees within my layers.

I left them white as they went perfectly with the snow theme.

I also used a cut for my title 'merry christmas' - I just love the script font and the stars.

I decided to apply gesso to this and then added Dylusions Ink Spray in 'London Blue'.  Instead of spraying it on, I opened the bottle and applied with a brush - just love the mottled watercolour effect this gave.

If you follow my work, you know I'm a big user of Dylusions Ink Sprays - I always order mine from Scrap Matrix.

I added some 2Crafty Chipboard cause it was just SO PERFECT!

I used the' Deer Head Set' and applied Antique Silver Emboss Powder.

I also added 'Swaying Branches' into my layers - I added white gesso and then doodled on them a little.

I also added stars from 'Tiny Hearts and Stars'. I added navy ink to these and randomly scattered them.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with for this awesome challenge.

Sometimes I find Christmas tricky to scrap, but using one of the dresses as my starting point made it easy, and enabled me to use an alternate colour scheme.

Don't forget to pop on over to the blog and check out the rest of the DT's creations, and see which dress inspired them!!

Thanks for hanging with me throughout the year, I wish you a magical December.

Luv Tam

Scrap the Girls - November Challenge

Well it's that time of the month! Lol..... the first, so it's new challenge time over at Scrap the Girls.

I love the challenges we have there - so creative and a little different to the 'norm'.

So the new moodboard looks like this:

It's called "Get Lost" and the idea is to be inspired by your favourite fairy tale.  How much fun is that!!

I could have done a number of pages for this one, as I have a teen daughter who is Disney Princess crazy, and often around here I feel like I fell down the rabbit hole! Lol

But I ended up going with one of my favourite moments when we visited Disneyland a few years ago, meeting Princess Anna!! Yep I never want to forget that. I love her - her enthusiasm and positivity, her carefree, bubbly nature mixed with that awkwardness.  And yep she didn't disappoint. She was perfect.

I took my inspiration from the colours in Anna's dress - but then it was all too much, so I changed the photos to black and white. Much better.

I added some 2Crafty Chipboard as it just fit so well - I used stars, a title that was just perfect, and a gorgeous floral swirl that reminded me of the embroidery on Anna's dress.

I also took inspiration from the watercolour image on the bottom right.

So let's take a closer look:

Here's that title - I love applying different colours to the different fonts.

Here you can see the chipboard Flower Vine.

Creating that background was a lot of fun.  I used Dylusions Ink Spray which I get from my favourite scrappy store Scrap Matrix - and yes you can order online!
Messy but fun!

I created some tags from 7Dots paper to pop my journaling on.  I also source these from Scrap Matrix.

I also used some 7Dots stickers.

I added some scribbles and fun words around the edge to finish it off.

So that's my creation.... I can't wait to see what you come up with!!

Head on over to the Scrap the Girls Blog to see the rest of the team's inspiring layouts. Those girls are awesome!

I'll see you again soon, til then happy creating!

Dear Mama.....

Hi everyone, I'm here today to share my layout for the current 'You've Got Mail' Challenge at Scrap Matrix.

I love this theme......so many options.  As soon as I saw it, I knew what I wanted to do.

You see I've had these precious letters that my daughter wrote to me a couple of years ago. They are just beautiful, heartfelt and so very precious to me. I actually carry a copy around with me in my purse at ALL times.  I often sit and read them, and I think they bring a tear every time.

Anyway, I really wanted to preserve these letters, and now I have!!

Here's my layout.....

Yep, in that hand made envelope sits the letters.

So let's see how this came together......

I began with a gorgeous paper from 7Dots 'Writer's Block' Range.  The script feel is just perfect.

I knew I would add lots of colour.....yep it's gotta have colour, so I added a thin coat of clear gesso to act as a barrier/sealer to protect the paper.

Whilst this was drying, I grabbed another sheet from the 7Dots 'Writer's Block' Range.  I chose a darker colour, as a contrast to the  background.

I grabbed an envelope that I had laying about the place, and I opened it up, and used this as a template.

I traced it and cut it out

I then taped it back together.....such a simple way to have a perfectly co-ordinating envelope.

Now it's time to add some colour to the layout..... you know how much I LOVE colour!

For this part, I used the 'clear packaging' technique.

I began with Dylusions 'Polished Jade', and spritzed some onto some old packaging, I also added some water.

I then turned this over and splodged it onto my layout. (super technical hey!)

I then repeated this process with Dylusions 'Lemon Zest'.

Then just a hint of  Dylusions 'After Midnight'.

*Make sure you dry in between each colour*

I then added some string to my page.

You will notice that these are vertical on the page, however, on the final layout they are horizontal.

When I got to the very end of the layout, I changed my mind and decided that this needed to change!
So I swapped the string to vertical.
I just felt it 'tied' in with the layout more (he he see what I did there)

I then added a few stamps to the background.

I used AALL & Create #60. I used the circle/script/word section of this stamp.

I grabbed a Dina Wakley flower stamp and stamped this onto white cardstock using an Archival Black Ink.

I again used the 'clear packaging' technique to add colour to these stamped images.

I cut these out and began layering and tucking in and around my photos using both the flowers and lots of 7Dots Tags, again from the 'Writer's Block' collection.

For my title, I decided to use a tag I made from 7Dots paper.

I stamped onto it using these very cool Idea-ology Alpha Stamps.

I added some hand-writing, so that the tag read 'Dear Mama, Love Paige'

I then attached this to the envelope, making sure it could still open and close.

I added a few embellishments, including some 7Dots die cut elements from the 'Air Mail' range, a gorgeous German Scrap Pen Nib, and a cute metal envelope charm.  This just finished off the tag perfectly.

Aren't the pen nibs just gorgeous!!

Now it was time to add in more layers.......embellishments, tags, stickers, pen nibs, and the stamped flowers and leaves.

I added some journaling to a 7Dots tag, and some word stickers from 7Dots too.
Oh how I adore their products.

Here's the word stickers and embellishments I used by 7Dots.

I then spritzed some of these little white flowers in the Dylusions 'Vibrant Turquoise' and 'Lemon Zest', and scattered these amongst the layers too.

Love the colour combo, and the overall effect.

This layout has a special place in my heart, and I'm so glad this challenge was set as it forced me to create a forever keepsake.

What special keepsake/ephemera could you scrap, thus preserving the memories forever?
