Another 2Crafty Chipboard Share

Hi there everyone!

 

I'm back again to share another layout with lots of yummy NEW 2Crafty Chipboard!

 

This one is titled:

'Shine'

 

 

It's a layout celebrating my amazing daughter and her recent volunteer trip to Cambodia, where she was involved in building a house for a family and also educating and teaching English at the School.

 

Definitely life changing, definitely inspiring, definitely proud!

Definitely needed to be documented!

 

 

 

As you can see I also added lots of 7Dots Studio tags and word stickers. You know I can't do a layout without them!! I get all my 7Dots products at Scrap Matrix.

I also LOVE that Carabelle stamp - also available from Scrap Matrix.

I used the following 2Crafty Chipboard:

 

'Fern Leaf Set' *NEW*

'Fine and Fancy Butterfly Set' *NEW*

'Fine Word Set 2'

'Mini Squiggly Bits' *NEW*

'Polaroid Assorted Frames'

 

 

I began by painting one of the frames from the 'Polaroid Assorted Frame Set' in white acrylic paint.

 

I then added some random stamping with black ink.

 

 

 

I used the frame to highlight a photo, and then added some embellishments to the side. 

This really draws the eye into that particular area, making it the focal point.

 

 

 

I also painted the 'Mini Squiggly Bits' in white paint.

 

I poked these around the layers of the layout, so they are peeking out.

The white contrasts really well with the black background.

 

 

 

I added the word 'shine' from the 'Fine Word Set 2' to the strip of photos.

 

These fine words are perfect for adding to the tops of your layers and photos - they are fine and so don't cover up too much.

 

I simply added black paint to this. It's really all that was needed.

I also painted the 'Fern Leaf Set' black, and once dry I randomly swiped Opal Magic in Aqua/Rose over the top.

 

I really love this effect and it suits the layout perfectly.

 

 

In the bottom left hand corner, you can see I've created a smaller cluster.

 

To this I added a NEW 'Fine and Fancy Butterfly'.

These are gorgeous, and there's three in a pack, I only used one so I have some leftover for another creation!

I simply applied some Archival Ink in 'Garden Patina'.

Let’s Meet....

 

G’day, my name is Tammy Klingner and I live in the beautiful Clare Valley in Australia with my two amazing teenage children. I have been scrapbooking in one form or other for 14 years! I can’t imagine not having the creative outlet. It’s my peace, my joy and my sanity. I absolutely adore colour and you will find vibrant colour on most of my layouts. I also love to use paint and all things mixed media!. I absolutely love 7 Dots Studio products and am so thrilled to be guest designing here. Thank you!

I had so much fun creating this layout of my niece and brother in law in the USA. This photo of them reminded me of a nest, which was totally inspired by the nature and bird images in the moodboard. So I actually added a mini nest to my layout and had fun adding feathers, metals, chipboard etc to go with the theme. I found the Northern Lights paper was perfect and I added a few word stickers as they just suited the theme so well. As always I added lots of tags from a variety of 7 Dots collections. I love that all of the ranges complement each other. I think everything I create has at least two 7Dots tags. They are my favourite! I also used the colours in the moodboard as inspiration, adding blue watercolour as my background. I’m really happy with my creation, and even happier that another precious moment has been captured forever. Art Journal Pages celebrating my Year of Books!

Hello!

 

Tam back again to share a special project with you, something I've been working on for a while.
I've been busting to show you all, and it just fits perfectly with this month's challenge over at Scrap Matrix , 'A Year in Review'.

 

One of my other passions in life is reading. Aaaah books! I love books. I love the feel of them, the smell of them, the look of them. I love escaping reality, I love that I can live different lives, understand different perspectives.

 

Earlier this year, I began a book club, and after each book is read we have a few questions to answer. I love that these questions make me think more deeply about the book. They make the book stay with me for quite some time afterwards.

So the storyteller in me wanted to document this, and the way I express myself is with colour and paint, so I decided to begin an art journal focusing on the books I've read.

 

I began with a gorgeous old book that I had bought at an op-shop - it's pages were tattered and had a lovely texture to them. The only problem was the pages were very thin - so I began gluing pages together to 'toughen' them up a little. Now I had the base for my project, so time to delve in and have some fun...........

'Breath' by Tim Winton

I was inspired by the surf, the waves, the ocean.

'The Light we Lost' by Jill Santopolo

I was inspired to create a city scene as New York was pivotal to the story.

'The Nightingale' by Kristin Hannah

I was inspired by Isobel, one of the sisters who became known as 'The Nightingale' during World War 1 for her heroic deeds.

 

'On the Island' by Tracy Garvis Graves

I was inspired by the Island Imagery and the sunsets.

 

'A man called Ove' by Frederik Backmann

I drew inspiration from a quote about colour and the neighbourly love and support.

 

'The Dry' by Jane Harper

I took inspiration from the Australian bush.

'Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine' by Gail Honeymoon

I tried to capture Eleanor and her loneliness.

'Circe' by Madeline Miller

This book has a glorious cover which became the starting point for this one.

'The Nowhere Child' by Christian White

I wanted to recreate the woods and the darkness.

'Little Fires Everywhere' by Celeste Ng

This book contained a lovely reference to feathers which became the inspiration for this one.

 

 

 'The Wife between Us' by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Rekkanen

I wanted to capture the two women central to the story.

'Room' by Emma Donoghoe

This book is written from the child's persepective, so I drew a childlike image, using my left hand and lots of stamps.

'The Lace Weaver' by Lauren Chater

I was inspired by the lace, the history and the rings mentioned throughout the story.

 

'The Bookshop of the Broken Hearted' by Robert Hillman

This one had me stumped, so this kinda just happened.

'I See You' by Clare Mackintosh

Pretty self explanatory!

'Baby Teeth' by Zoje Stage

This was an interesting read, and contained a quote about butterflies which I loved.

 

As you can see,  they all vary, and some are simpler than others.

I always used colour as an inspiration......what colours/mood did the book create in my mind?

Sometimes I added quotes, sometimes I jotted down my thoughts.  I really just went with the flow each time, let it evolve, tried not to overthink it.

I just let the inspiration take over.

Such a fun project - lots of playing and experimenting.  I'm never really worried about the end result, it's more about the process and the documenting.

 

Oh and another thing - this book does NOT cope with what I throw at it, unlike the gorgeous Art Journals available from Scrap Matrix that can take anything I hurl at them - this book doesn't cope at all. I really only get one chance - the pages tear really easily if I add too many layers or try to remove any paint.  At first I struggled with this, but I really love that it forces me to just go for it, enjoy it and then move on!! I also love that the text/written words are visible through the paint....really adds to the whole concept.

This is a look at the book - one day I will jazz up the cover!

 

There's too many Scrap Matrix products used on these to list them all, so I'll add a few that I go to over and over again.

But basically use ALL of your paints! ALL of your stencils and ALL of your stamps!!!

 

I can't wait to keep adding in pages as I finish reading books.

Year in Review.....a Project Life Spread

Hi there Creative friends,

 

Today I'm sharing my first project for the year for Scrap Matrix.
 Our first challenge for 2019  is A Year in Review!

 

I decided to create a Project Life Spread.

 

Some of you may know I try to complete a weekly Project Life spread. I've been doing this for a few years now, however this year I've dropped the ball with all my other creative commitments taking over and I'm 6 months behind.  AaaaH!!

When I saw this challenge, I knew I could do a final spread for 2018, and hope I can catch up the rest later.

What you can't see in these pages are that there are lots of interactive lift the flap pages and also a couple of mini pages too.

I'm sorry for the blurriness, no matter how I photographed it, it kept happening, so I gave up!'

Of all my creative projects, this one totally has my heart as it captures the everyday moments around here.

I love looking back on it and remembering totally random things I had forgotten - what we were reading, watching, eating, achieving - it's like watching a re-run of our life.

The kids love looking at it too.

 

As this was the year in summary, I really wanted to add all the family members voices, so I asked them their highlights and then added them to cards.

 

I made many of the cards myself, which I'll explain further below, and I also added a few smaller pocket pages - it was a big year as usual, and I had so much to cover!

 

Here's a look at the extra pages:

 

 

 

 

So let's take a look at how this began....

 

 

 

I used a couple of sheets of the 7Dots range - Messy Head, and a sheet by My Minds Eye. 
I also found a few of the pages from the Pinkfresh range fitted in perfectly.

 

 I trimmed them all down, and just love that they are the correct sizes for my pockets.

I laid them all out - here you can see the mini pages I added in too. These are from Snap - a multipack and they are great if I've got a lot to say!!

This is how I plan my pages, so I know what size photos to print!

 

You can also see I added in some white watercolour pages.  These will be used to add in the individual highlights of each family member, so there are 5 in total.

 

Time to make them non white!

 

I used Jane Davenport's Watercolours, and applied colour using the 'packaging technique'.

 

Just add some paint to some old packaging, add a bit more water and then splodge it on.

 

 

I then added stamping.

 

I used the Ideaology Alpha Stamps and added each persons initial.

I then added a few fun stamps too, leaving plenty of room for words and a photo.

 

I used stamps by Carabelle and AALL & Create.

 

 

 

 

I then added some embellishments - I used the AWESOME Snarky Stickers. These are hysterical and absolutely perfect for my Project Life.  I also used some MAMBI Chips, and some of the Escape the Ordinary ephemera from Pinkfresh.

 

 

 

 

 

Here's the 5 finished cards:

 

Two of them I turned into pockets/flaps - mine and my daughters cards.

 

I always have so much to say, and my girl had a massive year which all needed a mention!

 

I just run some Washi tape along the side of a card and attach it to another card so it creates a hinge.  The bottom card then gets slotted into the pocket and the top card sits on top, over the plastic.

Here's a pic showing the 2018 card I created - I stamped with the Alpha Stamps and wrote around the edge.  Too easy.

I created that black and white striped card by using paint on a watercolour card.

Love the simplicity and boldness!

 

 

 

 I really love that quote card - this came from the Simple Stories sheet.
