Flying in with TWO Art Journal Pages

Hello there creative souls.....

 

I've popped in to share my second bit of creating for the awesome 'FLY' challenge over at Scrap Matrix.

 

I've created TWO Art Journal pages......

 

The first is......

I used the quote:

"Take these broken wings and learn to FLY"

 

and yup now you are all singing!!!

I used my black 8x8 Journal and brushed on some white gesso first.

 

To create the background I used a stencil by The Crafter's Workshop called 'Sweet Posy'.

 

It looks fabulous every time, I just use sections rather than the whole 12x12 shape.

I recently purchased a soft pink Dylusions paint called 'Rose Quartz'.

 

I have most of the BRIGHT colours, but sadly, am very lacking in the soft tones.

 

Time to try something different!!

 

 

 

 

 I also added some Dina Wakley paint in 'Fuschia' and my go to 'black' and 'white'.

 

I love the grey I achieved by mixing.

 

 

 

 

To create the feathers, I used a Kinder Kreations Stencil.

 

 

 

 

I simply used a pencil to trace with the stencil directly onto the page.

 

I turned the stencil over to ensure the feathers were going in different directions.

 

This gives a more natural 'floaty' feel.

 

I then painted over them with the above paints.

 

 

 

 

I really just 'winged it' until I was happy.

 

I added dots, and once dry a few simple pen marks using my Fudeball pen.

 

I added a few flicks of the paint as well.

 

 

 

 

I then hand drew some little birds.....I wanted them to  look like they were coming off the feathers.

 

I added my quote in and done!!!

 

 

Time to share my second creation......

 

For this one I cracked open my Dina Wakley 8x10 Journal!

EEEEEEEKKK!!

 

 

 

 

This one began as I had a leftover scribbled flower from the last page I created.....

 

I couldn't waste it so.......

 

 

 

 

I firstly created a face using Scribble Sticks.....

 

 

 

 

I added water to the scribbles to allow the colour to drip down the page.

 

 

 

 

 

You'll notice I only created half a face.....

 

I can never seem to match up the eyes, so I cheated and added my quote to that section.

 

 

 

 

 

I used Ideaology alpha foam stamps by Tim Holtz and just added my own handwriting.

 

 

 

 

 

I then stamped a few of the Paper Artsy Tracy Scott  'Scribble flowers' above the face, in both the small and large size.

 

 

 

 

I added some Dina Wakley paint in 'Turquoise', 'Lemon' and 'Blushing'.

 

 

 

 

I love these pastel hues together.

 

 

 

 

This is the same technique I used last time, so you can see step by steps of that HERE.

 

I added the leftover flower from my last page over the top of some of the flowers and love that it sits up off the page a little.

Another Ranger creation for Scrap Matrix

Today I'm sharing another creation using Ranger products available from Scrap Matrix.

So many products, so much inspiration.

Today I'm sharing another layout created using Ranger Scribble Sticks and other Ranger products. Can you tell I'm a Dina Wakley fan??

Last time I used a dark background, so I thought this time I'd go with a white background.

 

This layout documents my One Little Word for 2018.

 

I always choose one to give me a focus and as a guide throughout the year.

 

This year I chose CHOOSE. Lol.  For a number of different reasons.

 

 

I began by applying clear gesso to my background.

I then applied some Scribble Sticks using water and a brush.  I love the effect of this.  It's like watercolour, but the colours are stronger, which suits me to a T.....I'm sure by now you all know I'm a big COLOUR fan.

 

I then added lots of stamping. 

 I used Dina Wakley Stamps and some stamps from 7Dots Studio for this.

 

 

This is how my background looks.

 

 

I love those Ranger Dina Wakley Just what to Say stamps with the sentiments on them. 

 I've used them before for cards, and they are so perfect on this layout.

 

 

 

I then applied some more Scribble Sticks with water to white cardstock. 

Once dry I stamped some Ranger Dina Wakley Scribbly Flower stamps with Archival Ink and cut them out.

 

These will be perfect for some clustering on my layout.

 

I then added some layers behind my photo.

I used 7Dots Studio tags, and some leftover Pinkfresh.

 

I coloured some White Mini Flowers using Scribble Sticks and water.

 

I then layered it all together.

 

I used foam tape to hold up all the layers, so I can tuck more between the layers.

 

 

I tucked some leaves that came from the Heidi Swapp 6x6 Mixed Media Paper Pack amongst the layers.

 

I also used Heidi Swapp epoxy stickers - Friends for my title. I used the 'Hello'.

 

 

I added journaling, some pink twine and a metal flower which I painted with black gesso.

So that's it from me today!

First Ranger share for Scrap Matrix

Hi all

Today I've popped in to share my first creation using Ranger products. for the current challenge over at my favourite scrappy store Scrap Matrix.

I absolutely adore Ranger products, and my absolute favourites are anything by Dina Wakley, and the awesome Dylusions products.

In my Design Team package I received the Dina Wakley Scribble Sticks, and I have to say at first they terrified me! I honestly didn't know where to start, and I put all this pressure on myself to be really arty with them.

Once I'd calmed down, I decided to just do what I know, stop feeling like I had to create an artistic masterpiece......so instead I decided to create a scrapbooking background and go from there.

Here's what I came up with......

 

Yep, see I used my favourite go to colours!

 

 

So I began by applying some white gesso to some black cardstock.

 

I swiped it where I wanted my colour to go.

 

Once dry I grabbed a few of the Scribble Sticks and began to simply colour these on quite randomly.

 

 

I then added some water and used a brush to disperse the colour, and also sprayed some water directly onto the background, letting it run down the page.

 

 

Pretty cool hey?

 

As I had so much colour and the black background, I decided my layout needed something fresh and white to make it 'pop'.

 

I stamped some of my favourite Dina Wakley stamps 'Abstract Blooms' onto white cardstock with Ranger Archival Ink, and then cut these out.

 

 

 

 

 

I then used the Scribble Sticks to colour  some guaze.

 

 

I also added some Dina Wakley Heavy Body Acrylic Paint.

 

I coloured some white/cream flowers with Dylusions Ink Spray in Polished Jade and Fresh Lime.

 

 

I also used the Scribble Sticks to colour some smaller flowers

 

 

I then began to layer it all up.

 

I added a few 7Dots Studio tags behind my photo along with the guaze.

 

I then tucked in the stamped flowers and added the coloured flowers.

 

 

Inbetween these layers I tucked  some German Scrap.

 

 

 

For my title I used these chalkboard look stickers from 'Me and My Big Ideas'.

 

 

 

I also added a few of these randomly to my page for some extra journaling.

 

 

I poked some of these Crystal Stems into the clusters.

 

 

The final step was to flick some white gesso over the layout and swipe some around the edges.

 

 

 

I hope this has inspired you today.

The challenge runs until the 14th March and the only rules are that it must container Ranger products, and a few of those products must be available from Scrap Matrix.
